Course Description
This exclusive course invites you to create two beautiful wildlife pieces, one in charcoal and one in watercolour. On day one, you’ll start with a soulful portrait of a Highland cow in charcoal, focusing on tone and texture to capture lifelike fur and expression. After a delicious homemade lunch, we’ll begin our main watercolour piece: a pair of barn swallows perched on a branch. Here, you’ll work with just three primary colours to create a range of tones and hues, mastering “wet into wet” techniques and building depth with various brushstrokes.
On day two, you’ll refine your swallows, learning to paint convincing feathers and bring energy to the piece with dynamic strokes. We’ll cover essential skills like correcting mistakes,
selecting effective reference photos, and creating harmony with warm and cool colours.
Key skills covered:
• Use shape, tone, and brushstrokes to add texture and depth.
• Master pigment control, timing, and creating colors from primaries.
• Add finishing touches like splashes, pen, ink, and acrylic for vibrant detail.
• Achieve fluidity and spontaneity in your wildlife art.
